Things to know before come to Morocco

Before embarking on your adventure to Morocco, it’s important to gather some key information to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you prepare for your visit to this captivating North African destination

  1. Geographical Location:
Morocco is located in the north-western region of Africa and is known as “al-Maghreb” in Arabic, which translates to “the West.” It shares a close proximity to Spain, just 13 kilometers away across the Strait of Gibraltar, while Algeria lies to the east, and the disputed Western Sahara region borders Mauritania to the south.
  2. Packing Essentials:
To make your Moroccan adventure comfortable and hassle-free, consider packing the following items:
  • Personal Identification
  • Passport and Visa (if required)
  • Airline Tickets
  • Credit Cards
  • Local Currency (Moroccan Dirham)
  • Travel Insurance
  • Health Documentation
  • Emergency Contact Information
  • Guidebooks and Maps
  1. Travel Insurance and Flights:
We do not provide travel insurance or international flights. However, all passengers traveling with Moroccanstork Travel must purchase travel insurance before the trip begins. You can independently book your air travel, separate from your booking with us.
  2. Customizing Your Trip:
We understand the importance of tailoring your trip to your preferences. If our provided itineraries do not fully suit your needs, please reach out to us, and we can create a personalized trip that aligns with your interests and desires.
  3. Booking Process:
You can easily book one of our suggested tours or any other customized tour by contacting us via phone, WhatsApp, or email.
  4. Deposit and Balance:
Upon confirmation of tour availability, a non-refundable 25% deposit of the total tour cost is required to finalize your booking. The remaining balance can be pre-paid via bank transfer two weeks before your tour or settled in cash upon meeting your guide on the first day of the tour.
  5. Cancellation Policy:
In case of cancellation, please provide written notification. Cancellation charges are as follows:
  • 30 days or more before the start date: Loss of 25% deposit
  • Between 29 and 10 days before the start date: 75% of total tour cost
  • Less than 10 days before the start date: 100% of total tour cost
  • Check with your insurance provider, as cancellation charges may be covered by your insurance policy.
  1. Electricity:
Morocco uses 220 volts in new buildings and 110 volts in older ones. Power outlets are typically of the French type. The frequency used is 50 Hz.
  2. Currency and ATMs:
The Moroccan Dirham (MAD) is the official currency, and it’s not widely accepted. ATMs are readily available in airports, cities, and major towns but may be scarce in rural areas. Carry some cash, especially during treks where ATM access is limited.
  3. Tipping Etiquette:
Tipping is discretionary but greatly appreciated by guides, drivers, restaurant staff, hotel porters, and camel guides. The amount is left to your discretion based on your satisfaction with the services provided.
  4. Photography:
General photography of landscapes, buildings, and nature is allowed. Always ask for permission when photographing people, and be prepared to offer a small fee (around 10 MAD) in exchange for their photo. Never take photos of individuals while they are praying.
  5. Languages:
Morocco’s official languages are Classical Arabic and Tamazight (Berber). French is also widely used in commerce and business. In northern regions like Tangier, Spanish is spoken due to Spain’s proximity and past colonization.
  6. Religion:
Morocco is predominantly Muslim (approximately 99% of the population), with a small Jewish and Christian minority. Respect for Islamic customs, including daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, charity, and pilgrimage, is expected.
  7. Dress Code:
While there is no official dress code, dressing modestly by covering shoulders, upper arms, and knees is appreciated by the local population, especially in rural areas.
