Day 1: Marrakech to Ouarzazate
– Depart from Marrakech: Start your journey early in the morning to make the most of the day. The road to Ouarzazate offers spectacular landscapes, passing through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, which offers impressive views of the Atlas Mountains.
– Arrive in Ouarzazate: Known as the gateway to the desert, Ouarzazate is famous for its kasbahs and film studios. Visit the Kasbah of Taourirt and, if time allows, the Atlas Film Studios where many famous movies have been shot.
– Night in Ouarzazate: Book a hotel or a riad to spend the night and rest up before continuing your desert journey.
Day 2: Ouarzazate to Merzouga
– Depart for Merzouga: After breakfast, take the road to Merzouga. The journey is long but traverses fascinating desert landscapes, including oases, Berber villages, and endless sand dunes.
– Stop at Ksar Aït Benhaddou: On the way, stop at Aït Benhaddou, a ksar (fortified village) that is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient citadel is a magnificent example of traditional Moroccan earthen architecture.
– Arrive in Merzouga: Upon arriving in Merzouga, prepare for an unforgettable desert experience. Join a camel trek to reach your desert camp, where you will spend the night under the stars.
Day 3: Merzouga to Marrakech
– Sunrise in the desert: Enjoy a magical sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, head back to Merzouga to begin the journey back to Marrakech.
– Return to Marrakech: The return journey can be long, so it’s advisable to leave early. You may choose to return by the same route or explore other roads if you have more time.
– Arrival in Marrakech: Return to Marrakech by the end of the day. This concludes your 3-day Moroccan desert adventure.
